Well written, good information.

Well I bought this book as a present and picked New which was £8.08 price.
When it arrived looked good but on flicking through it had a torn bottom on one of the pages but otherwise fine. It meant that I couldn’t give it as a present so have kept it myself as it must be used one.
Plus on looking at price it seems to have dropped down from 8.08 to 3.64 for new and 1.64 for used.
Therefore I should be owed money back as on my invoice it still down as £8.08.

This book outlines a meticulous body of research (albeit of an unorthodox kind). People who have undergone a near death experience were invited to contribute their stories to a website set up by the author and his fellow researchers.
It may seem a strange form of research that relies for its data on self-reported descriptions of the near death experience but the author insists that the structure of the questionnaires used and the methods of analysis of the data gleaned are able to weed out false reporting. In any case, the only way we have of knowing about the near death experience is to listen to the stories of those who have undergone that experience. There are, of course, scientists who claim that the whole experience takes place entirely in the brain of the dying person and no “supernatural” event actually takes place. Jeffrey Long questions the research supporting these, frankly rather lazy, claims.
If we are prepared to give the near death experience the benefit of the doubt it does pose some intriguing questions:
IF consciousness is able to exist independently of the body and brain then what is its true nature?
IF, as many who have undergone NDE report, there is another (higher?) world this consciousness passes to on death what is the purpose of life as we know it? It is worth considering that some NDErs have reported that they were given the choice of returning to this life. Who or what gives them that choice and why?
If I have a criticism of this book it is that all the subjects seem to be essentially good people many of whom return to life transformed and with a renewed determination to “do good”. Have no near death experiences been reported by truly bad people – violent criminals for example? Surely the dangers of the criminal’s way of life must likely lead to many a brush with death. What kind of afterlife would they encounter I wonder.
Mr. D. A. Lawrence –
This book has brought me great comfort and excitement. I grew up in 1950s and 60s England, with a poor and fragmented religious education. By my early 20s whenever I had to fill in a form and it asked for my religion, I put Church of England, not knowing if I believed in religion or not. At the age of 28 after reading Desmond Morris’s book, ‘Man Watching’ I felt enlightened by the science of his work, and I became a convinced atheist. However having had some personal experiences, mainly in vivid dreams, I began to question what was out there. My father was a WW2 soldier and although he never communicated much of what happened during his 5 years of active service, when I asked him if he thought there was a God, he would always reply emphatically that there was. He was not a religious man, I only ever remember going to church with him a couple of times. I know he lost many close friends during his duty and suffered from post traumatic stress for the rest of his life, although he hid it very well from us children. Then I happened to see the TV series, I Survived Beyond and Back. I chose to believe those people’s stories as I just felt they were honest. This changed my outlook on the concept of a God, and an after-life and all that may go with it. So now I’m a believer in God, although I shun all religions as inventions of earthly man. My religion is simply a collection of the things I’ve come across during my life, which I feel I can believe in. This book is as close as anyone can get to proper scientific research on this subject, and I choose, out of logic and my own sense of spiritualism to believe the accounts of the NDErs. I have a friend suffering from cancer who is close to passing on as I write this. I’d discussed with him the concept of an after-life, and he told me a few days ago that on three occasions whilst in the hospice he’s seen a beautiful angel with golden hair, wearing a dress covered in butterflies, beckoning him. I choose to believe him, as I choose to believe the accounts in this book. It makes me happier, I have lost the fear of death, not just for myself but for those members of my family. All in all this book has benefited my life and I thank the author for that.

This book is excellent, a lot more scientific than others I have read, but none the worse for that fact. It stems from Raymond Moody and others work on NDE’s and expands that work, which originally was quite limited geographically. This takes it to the next level and beyond and is a wonderful read as well. Having had both an NDE and and OBE, it was refreshing to read other peoples accounts, and to see how universal we are all in our experiences. I throughly recommend this book if you are interested in the serious research, and not just the New Age fluff and angels in my pocket stuff that seems to abound! They even have a website where you can recode your own experiences, which I intend to do, as well as read about others experiences, from all over the world, from different cultures, religious background and in different languages too. I definitely reccomend this book to any one seriously interested in this subject.

This us a great book and I couldn’t put it down.
The Rebecca Review –
I’ve believed in heaven and hell for as long as I remember being alive. I was shown movies that convinced me that hell was not someplace I wanted to spend my time. Heaven on the other hand seemed magical and even today I am enthralled by descriptions of heavenly places. Now to be fair I must tell you that the author focuses only on pleasant experiences where people end up in heavenly realms. This makes this book a comforting place to relax and dream and come to terms with heaven.
Since near-death experiences have become a worldwide phenomenon there are quite a few excellent books on the subject. I read as many as I can but must say that this book might be a great place to start. It also has some information about souls having 360-degree sight which I hadn’t read about in any of the other books I’ve found over the years. There is also an entire chapter dedicated to life reviews. I guess I want to know how much of a life is actually shown. Some say loving moments and unloving moments are shown and you are left to judge your own life perhaps with the help of a spiritual guide or angel.
One of the sections in this book describes why it is difficult to have a conscious experience when clinically dead because blood stops flowing to the brain. And yet people experience an even more lucid state once the soul leaves the body.
Some of the descriptions of heaven were familiar to me from reading other books but there were some magical places like a tower that was a library that I’d love to see.
For the most part, this book is very convincing and has many logical arguments. To be honest reading this book might make you excited to die. A few of the people in this book would have rather remained in heaven because coming back to earth was too painful. Yet these brave souls chose to come back to earth to finish out their life.
I think you will find this book very exciting and it is a quick read on the Kindle. After reading this book I’d only recommend that you read a few books on negative near-death experiences and possibly do some research on the words of Jesus Christ.

This is a wonder read if you’re interested in NDE’s.

Buen respaldo para la evidencia de sobre-vida. Bien estructurado aunque a veces repetitivo. Me gustó más el de Van Lommell, pero este ayuda a ir un paso más allá-

Like most people I find the subject of near death reports fascinating.
But also being a person with doubts found this book to be balanced and well researched. Dr.J.Long’s professional status is at stake here. Men of science do not lend their names to spurious claims without being certain that they have good reason to believe, and this is backed by his own research. If you want proof of life after death this rearch is as good as it gets. The book is excellent and well written. It contains fewer actual NDE reports than some but the research behind it makes up for this.

Very Interesting read. Though it becomes tough to understand the interpretations given by the Author as to the meaning of the experience
