If it was easy to transfer a recording to a computer I would give it a much higher rating. However, despite reading and re-reading the instructions I have not yet been able to work out how to do a transfer of the recording to a computer.
A pity it could have been great and so easy to carry around in a pocket.

It picks up a lot, great clarity of sound. Only down I cannot rename recordings, order them, do separate files etc. Screen a bit small but it works very well, ideal for so many usages. Picks up sound from far away, clearly, highly recommend it fir the price to capture lectures, or voice notes, sound, including that others do that you might need to capture to help with all kinds of situations

Very difficult to learn how to use the ‘buttons’. This was bought for a lady to record choir practice. When finally found a recording the quality was OK but all the controls were not straight forward.

All aspects need to be looked at to give a comprehensive review. Sound is great, solid build, functions are excellent, screen is great. Also battery life is amazing.
Now for the bad bits: Menu is appalling and difficult, the body is not isolated from the microphone so any touching will be heard on the recording as does the button pressing whist recording. Also the repeat function is set as standard to repeat on new recordings, you have to manually set each file to off.
So is this good for the price, well that depends on what you need it for. Quick touch recordings are not possible. Professionally speaking it is for domestic use. I guess you will need to pay £100 or so for something really good, say Phillips, Sony or Olympus.
User not familiar with hierarchical menu systems may get confused at time.
My ratings: Home use 4 stars. Business use 3 stars, Professional recordings 2 stars.
Edit: After looking at the various products for Phillips, Sony or Olympus I feel that perhaps splashing out more cash would be advisable to get something really good, as these products do not get top marks. Perhaps Tascam, Yamaha, Zoom, Edirol (Roland/ Yamaha) etc. Maybe from £150 upwards.

I injured my shoulder a few months ago in a car accident and this recorder saved me from typing all day at a computer and causing more strain on my shoulder. As a professor this came in very handy! I was able to give my students oral feedback on their assignments using the Garmay recorder. It records for long hours without having to charge it and the sound quality is great. It is very simple to download voice files to the computer and to email them. I love also being able to read long documents in bed or wherever is comfortable and just use the recorder with its pause feature to ruminate over a thought before recording. It allows me to create single voice files as notes on a reading without long periods of silent air time between thoughts. I also love the cute, small size of this recorder which fits in the hand very easily. My only wish is that I would have bought this sooner. This recorder has been a godsend!

Took a few seconds to orientate around the menu, but then got the date and time set and tried the recorder from inside my shirt top pocket, sensitivity is wonderful and time for recording is immense. on 32kb/s it will hold nearly 1200 hrs of recordings…. The volume is plenty loud enough and there are both sockets for microphones and speakers to be added if you need that extra loudness to share with a crowd,. At just under £30 this is excellent value and I now have 3 of these items. I also have a parabolic microphone that can be connected to this recorder to allow me to hear birds while out in the field. Great value and ease of use speak for themselves.
