I have 2 kids, and so always have a thermometre at home for when they are sick and we need to keep an eye on their temperature. Our youngest also had the tendency to get febrile convulsions when he was young, so this is a must have to watch out for those sudden fever spikes which can cause that. I trust this brand for their thermetres as the GP uses them and for their accuracy. The kit comes with changeable covers for the ear part, which you will have to change to ensure you get accurate readings. I trust in-ear thermometres for their more accurate readings; we bought one of those forehead reading ones years ago but we found it very inaccurate. The thermometre is easy to use and easy to read in low light too. The only reason I had to repurchase was because we had lost our previous one! We will also buy this one because of its accuracy and convenience despite the high price-tag.

This thermometer is the best i have come across. Used at hospitals and doctors. Very reliable and easy to use. Comes with plenty of plastic covers and the refills are cheap to buy. I have 2 of these (for when I misplace the other which happens alot!)

This thermometer is a game changer if you have small children! It is very easy to use and reasonably accurate. My toddler won’t allow me to use any other thermometer, but he is happy with this one. He even got used to it now and does not resist. It only takes 3 seconds to get a measurement. If on doubt you can always take another measurement!
It is so easy to use and reliable that everyone is using it at home including adults.
The thermometer uses some hygiene plastic caps that you need to buy extra, but you can find cheap ones on Amazon.

There was a period early on in COVID-19 lockdown that it was near enough impossible to buy one of these for a reasonable price. Even Amazon were charging £50+ for them, some unscrupulous third-party sellers were listing them over £100, and people were buying them because they were desperate. You should be looking to buy them at around £40.
It just so happened we needed one during this period, because our baby was sick and we were told we should try monitoring his temperatures. This had nothing to do with COVID, else we’d have just waited.
Thankfully I managed to get one at £38 directly from Amazon, and it does seem to be very good, generally. The accuracy is hard to gauge really. Perhaps it fluctuates slightly due to ear position etc, but I have noticed its readings do vary occasionally.
It has 3 temperature modes for: newborns, 3-36months and 36months+ – This is because temperatures can be more serious at these earlier points so the ‘allowable’ temperature tolerances are lower. It is helpful though that these are suitable from birth.
I chose this style over other thermometers because this is the type all the medical staff seemed to use in the maternity wards. The tip is pre-warmed to try and make it less of a shock when taking your child’s temps, however I still find our son hates having it done, and wriggles everywhere!
It also has a memory feature, which tells you the last 9 stored temperatures. It’s easy to use, though I would like the thermometer to remember/store the last age range entered. It’s a faff having to add same age every time I want to use it.
The case is nice and protects the vulnerable probe side of the device. It also comes with a small box of tips. These are single-use (not ideal) disposable tips that keep the unit hygienic. You get around 20 of these with the unit. You can buy refills via Amazon (I bought the official Braun ones, but there are cheaper imitations if looking to save money). The case allows you to store a box or two of these tips within itself.
The reading only takes around 2 seconds once in the ear and button pressed, which is impressive, especially when trying to take temps of an irate baby! If temperatures are in the normal range for the selected age group, the temperature will be returned with a green backlight. If it is elevated for the age range it’ll be amber, and it’d be advisable to monitor closely any changes. If it is too high, it’ll show a red backlight. I believe if this happens you should speak to a GP about it (especially if children).
This is worth the price in my opinion. There are cheaper alternatives, but I feel that if the Doctor’s, Midwives and Nurses are using them all over the NHS then they must be the better option.

I opted for this thermometer due to its positive reviews and reputation among my friends. I purchased it to monitor my partner’s temperature during illness. The temperatures remained consistent throughout the day and regardless of the ear used, a crucial test for me. Unlike my previous thermometer(which were cheaper) with a ±0.3 degrees difference, this one is more reliable at only ±0.05. Easy to use with quick measurements, legible digits, and a useful backlight, though the plastic cap, while necessary, can be bothersome. It even came with premium Duracell batteries and a plastic storage case. highly recommend this product .
