I enjoyed reading this book as it goes into details that I hadn’t previously found in other similar books. Some books explain exercises by stating ‘ tighten your abdomen ‘, Jim’s book shows you exactly how to tighten your abdomen till you reach the point that you should tighten and you will know it. His explanation of each exercise goes into that detail when required. That’s what I like about his books. I had been looking for a long time for a book for workouts (at home). After reading up on all sorts of exercise I realised that a book on stretching was a must. I then discovered workouts with resistance band training. Jim’s books were the best that I found. I eventually got his book on weight training, bodybuilding workout plan which was, for me, very informative. This book incorporates stretching, workouts with/without weights and all with full descriptions that you will need. It is a basic book but very informative for me as a ‘senior’ as at takes me into each exercise in stages. I just wish that this book was around when I was looking for it. Thanks Jim.

Its usable but not very presentable. I have had similar problems before with books printed by Amazon. It has a fairly nice cover, but the inside is “budget” printing with everything in black and white. If it wasn’t just an “exercise” book I would have returned it. Doesn’t make a gift item.

Good information for functional exercise for seniors and probably beginners.
Gives lots of insight into movements of the body and how to put these exercises into daily training routine of your own.
There are plenty of exercises to choose from and the links at the front of the book were useful for quick navigation.

I have found this book extremely good for rehabilitation and as a beginner it was a perfect introduction to general fitness and mobility as well as for seniors.
The exercise descriptions were very easy to follow, clear and I found the images for each exercise to be really helpful too.
I would definitely reommend this book to others and for the price is extremely good value for money.

An insightful introduction to exercises and a good breakdown of the range of motion as well as everyday activities that impact the way we function. Having never read a fitness book before, this was eye opening, I didn’t think to get a lot from a none face to face session but this has proved otherwise.

The information contained in this book is very helpful. What would improve the reader’s ability to learn and practice the exercises would be a more user-friendly layout for all of the sections of exercise instruction. Two of the sections, “Seated Exercise Routine” and “Single Muscle Exercise Routine” have a layout in which the instructional pictures appear on the right page, and the reader has to flip the page to read the precise instructions, so that one has to constantly flip back and forth to see the diagrams and compare them to the words. The other two sections of exercise instructions are laid out so that the picture appears on the left page and the instructions are on the right page, making it much easier to use. This is a self-published book and, perhaps, an editor might have been able to make these suggestions and check for typos before printing. Hopefully, in the next edition, the author might reconsider the layout. The information that James Atkinson provides, however, is very good.

The information about the postures and exercises appear much later. The exercises suggested are too easy and obvious ,which most people would already know about .The book needs to be rewritten with relevant information ..

Great book, very clear pictures and instructions.Great asset to my fitness library. If you have not done a great deal of exercise on the floor, then best take things slowly. I looked at picture, made a momentous snap decision”HEY I CAN DO THIS”,got down on the floor to execute the stabiliser, then found after intense aches and pains in back, i could not get up.I was seriously stuck on floor. After initial panic and thoughts of firefighters having to lift me with specialist equipment, the pain subsided. Then i was still stuck on floor with hysterical laughter at my predicament.I did eventually manage to get up. So please take your time!

Plenty of exercises to choose from and good explanations of how to put the exercises into a workout routine that you can use based on your ability. There are also pre-made exercise routines to follow that take into consideration, range of movement, mobility, full body workouts, etc. Although this is aimed at seniors, it seems that the information is relevant for anyone, really.

A nice book on the subject. It could have better and more pictures.

Another brilliant book by Jim.
What I love about Jim’s books is they are simple to read, and whatever strength and fitness level you’re at, you’ll get lots of great results if you put the work in.

British certified fitness coach and author James Atkinson has published fifteen valuable books on his advice for encouraging good health – books that explore fitness and good physical health – and now he extends his expertise and wise counsel to Seniors. The impact of this new book is well reflected in his opening statements: ‘In my experience, age is better represented as a number rather than a condition. It’s what we do with our time and how we use our body that makes a difference…Learning to move our bodies in the right way can have an enormously positive impact on our quality of life… The exercises in this book are set out as a guide to highlight the movements of the body as they were intended…whatever your age and whatever your fitness level is, there is always a place for functional and mobility training.’ He covers all the bases with actionable results!
With excellent graphics that supplement his illustrations and teaching (and a fine section on a health check before starting), James takes us through exercises for range of movement, seated, single movement, and multi-movement exercises. All of James’ books provide supportive encouragement to the reader for achieving and maintaining fitness, delivered in a user-friendly manner. This is one of the finest books for realistic, informed and results-producing fitness books this reader has encountered! Very highly recommended.
